Four rules to help improve your game…

Every official knows that rules are important to the game. These rules are for officials and adding these four rules to your pre-game will help you improve you game.

These are basic rules that can be implemented at any level.

Referee the Defense

We are taught this from day one, but really it should be more.

Referee the defense on point of contact and legality. Referee the offense on effect of the contact. learn more

Focus on your PCA

Reaching out of your primary coverage area (PCA) decreases your likelihood of being correct.

Focus on your own PCA before reaching into another PCA. Help  when necessary. learn more

Call the Obvious

Some plays are simple to officiate and those are the ones that need to be called all the time and consistently throughout the game.

That’s the majority of the game. learn more

Trust your Partner(s)

Put yourself in a position to ensure your partner(s) success but don’t make excuses for them either. Be a member of the third team on the court.

A team does their job! learn more

Basic Principles of Officiating Basketball

CONTACT does not necessarily constitute a foul.

HUSTLE to get into position.

Make yourself a good LEAD official.

Know the IMPACT of your whistle.

Awareness improves CONSISTENCY.

Have a sense of URGENCY.

What you permit, you promote. What you allow, you encourage. What you condone, you own.

Be your best!
